VOLUNTEERS UPDATE

Our society Volunteer Coordinator Bill Lambert writes….

Volunteer Work Boat.
Our society still has the work boat Wanderer for the month of February. We have had a successful time through December and January cutting back overhanging branches and collapsed tree trunks out of the waterway. By the time we finish I think we can claim to have made an improvement to the canal between Tardebigge and the Dead Arm at Alvechurch. However, we still have a few days to go. We still have some clearing to finish between Tardebigge and Shortwood Tunnels. This will not be heavy work but relatively light, although it may be wet.

Volunteer Work Boat dates are as follows:
February 2018 – Wed 7th, Thur 8th, Wed 14th, Thur 15th, Sat 24th, Sun 25th.
The boat is moored at Tardebigge and we will collect at 9.00am.
If anyone can join us, we would appreciate it. The job is almost complete, so three or four days should do it. We must return the boat to Worcester on the 24th and 25th as this takes two days. So, before this we will need to give the boat a good hose down. Any volunteer for a wash down? Please let me know if you can help us out.

The address of the site is Tardebigge New Wharf, Alcester Road, Tardebigge, Bromsgrove, B60 1NF

The Lime Kilns and Community Gardens.
We have had a rest from the kilns project over the winter months, but it is time to start again. During February we will start mowing around the kilns site and the community garden area. This will include trimming back some of the shrubbery. Most of this is light work, so please support your society and give us a hand where you can.

The Lime Kilns and Community Gardens dates are as follows:
Sat 10th, Sun 11th, Wed 24th, Thur 22nd. We will collect on site at 9.30am.

The address of the site is Tardebigge New Wharf, Alcester Road, Tardebigge, Bromsgrove, B60 1NF

For something different on the 7th February, Canal and River Trust are working on Green Spaces initiative. The event will start at 10.00am and takes place at Cambrian House 22 King Edwards Rd, Birmingham, B1 2AN
This work runs on the first Wednesdays of the month and will run for several months through the summer. It covers the Birmingham and Fazeley Canal and aims to improve the environment and appearance of the canal corridor around the city centre.
